The Very Hungry Kindergarteners

The Very Hungry Kindergartener

On the first day of Kindergarten, a bus pulls up on Center Street full of students eager and excited for the first day of Kindergarten. They bounced off of the bus and hurried in the doors of the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center.

They started to look for knowledge!

In the first couple of months they found the alphabet, letter sounds, numbers, and a trip to the apple orchard.

Next, they found a whole school pajama party with the Polar Express on a huge paper screen and an assembly about holidays all over the world.

In the winter they had an awesome arctic adventure. Boy, was it cold! The Antarctic and the Arctic set the stage for learning about the polar region right in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. They were still hungry.

In March, the hungry kindergartners found themselves in the balcony of The Grand Theater in Wilmington, Delaware. The audience that filled the seats was attentive, excited, and engaged. They were still hungry.

They went on through the year learning as much as they could. In May, they started the ABC Countdown. Easy as pie to the students who have been on their journey for months, they imagined, played, danced, and so much more all the way to Z!

As the countdown came to a close, the students were entertained by a storyteller, Clem Bowen, a Candyland Dance, a larger than life zoo, and a farewell celebration for the memory books.

Alas, students were full of kindergarten experiences. They boarded their buses for the last time as the faculty and staff waved their final goodbyes. They were off to continue their journey and look for more yummy learning in first grade!

PA Department of Health Updates Immunization Policy

In March 2017, the Pennsylvania Department of Health amended its regulations regarding school immunizations. These regulations take effect August 1, 2017 and will impact students for the 2017-2018 school year. The amendments will affect many students in the Kennett Consolidate School District and any student who is not in compliance by August 28, 2017 will face exclusion.

Changes taking effect:

  1. The deadline for immunization verification is now the first day of the 2017-2018 school year, August 28th 2017. Previously, school administrators could work with students and families until well into the school year before a student faced exclusion. This is no longer the case. Any student who has not provided proof of immunization by August 28, 2017 will face exclusion.
  2. Any student who has only received 3 doses of the polio vaccination will need a 4th dose by August 28, 2017. This amendment could affect students of any grade.
  3. For students entering the 7th grade, vaccinations remain the same (Tdap & Meningitis Vaccines), but are now subject to the new deadline of August 28, 2017.
  4. Seniors in the 2017-2018 school year will now need a meningitis vaccine by August 28, 2017. This is the second of two meningitis vaccines that are required for students.

Letters will be mailed to students informing them of their status. If you have any questions regarding where your child stands, you can contact your school’s nurse before June 14.

Teacher Receives Top Honors

On Friday, April 21, students danced their way into the multi-purpose room excited to see Langley the Lion and Principal Mrs. April Reynolds at our April Spirit Assembly! Everything seemed normal as Mrs. Reynolds started the morning with a message and the students learned a song about Earth Day. Then, Mrs. Reynolds continued the slideshow and the logo for the Citadel Federal Credit Union appeared on the screen.

AT that point, Ms. Theresa Stringer of Citadel entered the multi-purpose room and Mrs. Reynolds announced that a teacher at the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center was a finalist in Citadel’s Teacher of the Year Award contest!

Ms. Stringer explained that each year the credit union reaches out to the community to nominate teachers who are deserving of this recognition. Community members write letters explaining why their nominee would make the best recipient. “It is said that everything you need to know you learn in Kindergarten,” read Ms. Stringer.

Then moment came for the big reveal – the 2017 finalist for the Kennett Consolidated School District is Mrs. Jeri Ramagnano! Mrs. Ramagnano will represent the Kennett Consolidated School District at a luncheon with other finalists from around Chester County.

The teachers and staff at Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center are extremely proud of Mrs. Ramagnano!

Mrs. Jeri Ramagnano is announced as the finalist for KCSD! Mrs. Jeri Ramagnano, Superintendent Dr. Barry Tomasetti, and Mrs. April Reynolds after the award presentation.
