Kindergarten Student Fills an Important Role

On Wednesday morning the announcements came on to start an exciting day at Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center. The morning routine was just like any other day until a different voice boomed from the intercom. “That’s not Mrs. Reynolds!” the students pointed out right away! They were right! It was not. It was our “Principal for the Morning,” Gabriella Heagy, a student in Ms. Lisa Murphy’s kindergarten class. Gabriella performed the responsibilities of a principal all morning with Mrs. Reynolds showing her the way.

At our Designer Bag Bingo Night, parents were able to put tickets in baskets for a chance to win various items. One of those items was “Principal of the Morning.” Gabriella was the lucky recipient of the hardest working basket at the event. When asked about her experience, Gabriella says she liked being with Mrs. Reynolds in the morning. “My favorite part was doing tours and stuff,” Gabriella replied with a smile.

Irish Dancers Visit Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center

On St. Patrick’s Day the students at the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center enthusiastically entered for a day of learning and a little Leprechaun mischief. Many traps were set and classrooms were ready to welcome the bounding bundles of energy! “Today is St. Patrick’s Day!” they exclaimed as they entered their classrooms!

Principal, Mrs. April Reynolds, had a surprise for our lucky students. One of the students at Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center is also a student at the McHugh School of Irish Dance located in Wilmington, Delaware.

The all-purpose room filled with gasps and cheers as classmate, Mairead Raley and other members of her dance team, waited for the authentic sounds of Irish Dance in the starting position on the stage! The students were so excited to see the dancing and to learn about a few traditions of the holiday.

At the end of the show, students were given a brief lesson about Irish Dance and were given an opportunity to try it on their own. What a wonderful display that was!

This is sure to be a lesson the students and staff at the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center will never forget!
